This perplexes me...

Des Moines has a sizeable Latino community. Now, to my way of thinking, Mexican or other Latin-type food has generally included CORN (maize) as opposed to FLOUR tortillas...

And yet, when I'm looking for corn tortillas they're nearly impossible to find, while the market has a GLUT of flour tortillas...

And going to a Mexican restaurant so many of the dishes are made with flour tortillas. What the HELL is up with that? Somebody tell me where I can get authentic Mexican food that does NOT involve flour tortillas, please! :?

And barring the fact that the majority of Des Moines is caucasian, why is it so nearly impossible to find good corn tortillas in the flipping store?

This is Gretl's perplexity for the day.

Now I go to Sea Breeze my face which is greasy from eating cold Mexican food from last night...

Good Grief, you aren't looking in the right place. Jenny bought a big huge thing of corn torillas at the store a while ago. I think corn tortillas are gross. I'm all about flour tortillas so I have no complaints about the Mexican food around here. I don't like authentic foreign food. I like Americanized foreign food. :}

You are a sick woman.

Non-conformist? WHATEVER! Flour tortillas are conformist! Flour tortillas are evil! Flour tortillas are bad! :evil:

YOU are a sick woman. Four tortillas are good. Yum, I eat it.

Yes, I know that flour tortillas are conformist. That's just my tagline that goes at the end of all my posts. It's supposed to be an oxymoron. :}

Have you tried the mexican grocery store over by Madd's apartment? You might find some authentic mexican food at the mexican grocery store. :} Actually it's not too terribly far away from you now, I guess. It's at the corner of Capital and E15th right behind that McDonalds. :}

yeah--you can get 2 dozen for about 35 cents. they're the west side of the store north of the bakery section (i thinkit's the west side--sometimes i get my directions messed up.) my favorite part of the store--they have apple sodapop. delish! (they also have non-alcoholic sodapop that tastes like sangria. that tastes pretty good, also)
