Thoughts on Gastric Bypass

Postby ditzwill » Mon Nov 03, 2003 22:39:10

I am considering a very major surgery for weight loss called Gastric Bypass and I was wondering what all of your thoughts on it are.

Do you know anyone who has had the surgery? Can you tell me about them and how it turned out?

Do you have any thoughts on the process in general?

Anyone know where I can find some good information on the procedure?

Anything else you'd like to tell me about it and whether or not you think I should?
Everyone should be a non-conformist.

I do not know anything about that, but something a bit cheaper is the adkins diet, my grandma is on that, and thus far has lost about 122 pounds.

course as she puts it, its a lifestyle change, and you can't just do it til you lose the weight

I know a human at work who has done that, she has gotten much smaller. The PROBLEM is your desire to eat does not change, and you can stretch you stomach back out again, totally defeating to purpose in the first place. If one has a desire for food, mean you think about it and want it, then this plan may not work. Also, there is a considered mortality risk. This means that while not very large, there is a slight chance complications could come of it and you could die.

Yeah, that person I spoke of, as I heard, has gone through about 5 or so of the surgeries...
I will have something here... at some point...

Yes, however the mortality of severe obesity is, I believe, much higher... so I wouldn't think that would be as much of a factor as it could be. It's like an open-heart surgery... the mortality rate is pretty considerable in comparison, but without the surgery the person most likely would die anyway.

touch?!!

at least... maybe touch?... while remaining overweight I would agree, the fact remains there are many other methods that also could work... one could go on diet X and it has no side effects other than losing weight. if you go with the surgery, it is a assured risk... just as doing nothing is also an assured risk...

so it depends on what strange views on Reality you take
